What are the budget requirements and constraints for FUEL requests?

Is summer salary an allowable cost?

Salary support, including summer salary, is an allowable cost. All requested costs must conform to your institutional policies and the applicable cost principles.

Is travel support allowed?

Yes. Principal investigators should budget and request support for any travel necessary to carry out the proposed research. Please work with your Office of Sponsored Research to ensure that all requested costs are in conformance with institutional policies and the applicable cost principles.

Can the budget contain funding for undergraduate, graduate students or postdoctoral associates?

Yes.

Is the program limited to Principal Investigators (PIs) who are U.S. citizens?

No, but the PI must be employed by an institution in Louisiana that is eligible to submit to the RFP. All personnel proposed to work under an award must have the legal right to perform such work.

Does this program require or allow cost sharing?

Cost sharing is not permitted.

Are no-cost extensions allowed?

No-cost extensions will not be approved.

Does FUEL fund proposals for the purpose of purchasing equipment?

The proposals for use-inspired research are aimed to drive application-based research that yields a marketable and equitable product or solutions, such as patent applications, copy righted software, or other intellectual property. However, if there is a need for specialized equipment that is not available to the collaboration team, it may be allowed. It is recommended to check with the FUEL Director of Use-Inspired Research and Development.
